The Artist
Artist Statement
As an artist, I have dive myself in exploring my own culture and heritage. I was born in Mexico. However, I had grown indifferent to my own culture. I have now decided to educate myself and explore Mexican artistic practices. It has been the colonization of my thoughts that led me to decolonize myself. I have been traveling throughout Mexico the last two years in the search of my own cultural identity back. In my works, I have included recent personal experiences influenced by my own cultural practices and the knowledge I have gained the last two years as well as my experience as 1.5 generation in the US . I personally believe that basic knowledge, skill, and western art are a good starting point to art. Nonetheless, it is the exploration of our own identity that inspires us to keep making art after we have acquired the foundation of knowledge. I have done various work on 2D and 3D art. As well as a wide gallery of pictures during this journey. I have found a profound love for photography as a result of my need to capture my own culture. I came to the realization that I had stopped practicing things that I had adopted to fit in an Americanized culture. I felt the need to capture my life perspective by immortalizing who I met along the way, bringing places and memories with me wherever I go.
